Stainmore Summit and Bleathgill Cutting
26th October 2008

These photographs were taken on 26th October 2008 at Stainmore Summit then heading west towards Barras and Kirkby Stephen East. The Summit was 1370 feet above sea level and had a passing place with a signal box.
Today if you look at the Summit you would never know a railway passed here, but if you look the other way you would think the track had just been lifted. All these photographs were taken within a few hundred yards of each other. This bit of the line is next to, and some of it is on, the A66 dual carrigeway.
