The loco has been started for the first time in over two years and no major problems were encounted,just a little electrical work to do.(See Youtube to see engine ticking over)

Built 1963 at Vulcan Foundry,Newton-Le-Willows, 1750H.P. English Electric Engine.

This loco is in full working order and was the first of its sub class to be started in preservation. We are just waiting for the trackwork to be finished and then we can give her a run out!She was ticking over very nicely at the easter rally.

Currently in store just waiting for us to have a bit more time,but shouldnt take much to get her running again.

"Opperation brick by brick"was carried out over the weekend of 7th and 8th of July 2007 at Barras station.The old waiting room was slowly falling down and unfortunatly could not be repaired,so the owners kindly donated it to us for reuse,on condition we dismantled it.(The person trying to hide,with the red hat is MIKE PATTINSON!!)
9th Mar 2008Belah Viaduct
This collection was taken on 9th march 2008.It shows the remains of Belah Viaduct and signal box.The first two pictures show it when it was still used daily.(Thankyou Mark).
Belah Viaduct was on the line between Kirkby Stephen East and Barras.It was built,by Sir Thomas Bouch,in november 1857 and took just four months to complete,it had a span of 1,040 feet and at 196 feet tall was the tallest in england at the time.It only lasted for one year after line closure and was demolished in 1963.

Volunteers are always welcome,whatever your skills or age we will have a job that you can do,from engine drivers,guards,signalman to trackwork,loco/carriage+wagon restoration,building/gardening work,full training can be given.Feel free to get in touch or just turn up any weekend and see how much fun volunteering can be.

Friday 21st November 2008 was the Grand opening of the new retail outlet at K.S.E. This was carried out by the Reverend Alan Cliff,the author of "Jack the station cat"books.(He also signed any "Jack the station cat" books that were purchased.)After a brief but funny speech he unlocked the door to the new shop.

Please feel free to call in and see the new shop soon as it will be open every weekend 11.00-16.00.

We are currently on the lookout for some signaling equipment if you can help please get in touch:- 3+lock strecher bars, 200+point rodding rollers frames, 1,800 ft of point rodding, 3+Detector assemblies for signal interlocking the ground signals, 3+sole plates.
26th Oct 2008Stainmore Summit and Bleathgill Cutting
These photographs were taken on 26th October 2008 at Stainmore Summit then heading west towards Barras and Kirkby Stephen East. The Summit was 1370 feet above sea level and had a passing place with a signal box.
Today if you look at the Summit you would never know a railway passed here,but if you look the other way you would think the track had just been lifted.All these photographs were taken within a few hundred yards of each other.This bit of the line is next to, and some of it is on, the A66 dual carrigeway.

Volunteer Away Days 2
Locomotion Diesel Gala.
A few pictures from our very enjoyable weekend away at Locomotion Shildon 17-19 April 2009.Exhibits were Prototype DELTIC, 55022 Royal Scots Grey, D1023 Western Fusilier, D6700, RB004, with 03090+663 working the passenger trains.Thanks to Anthony Coulls and team.

The sales stand was at Locomotion again for their steam gala over the weekend of 19/20th September 2009.
As always another brilliant weekend with locos:- Furness Railway No20, No9 "Planet" visting from the Manchester science museum, No22 visting from the Bowes railway and BR standard 70013"Oliver Cromwell".Thanks again to Anthony Coulls and his team.

Over the weekend 19th-21st September 2008 a group of volunteers took the sales stand to Locomotion Shildon for the annual steam gala.It was a fantastic weekend with a photo shoot on the Friday night and engines in steam and working on Saturday and Sunday.Thankyou to everyone at Locomotion for such an excellent weekend including Anthony Coulls.

A split slide show, with Glyn Robinson give a presentation on potholing, you need nerves of steel for a hobby like this! The second half will be a presentation by Mark keefe on the battles of Isandlwana and rorke’s drift, These battles took place during the Zulu war on the 22 January 1879, with two spectacular results.
